May 24th is International Women’s Day for Peace and Disarmament.
Nuclear Abolition Now encourages everyone to visit and learn about feminist-based peace building organizations such as the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom who do extensive disarmament work.
We also encourage you to look at the following resources, among countless others, for learning about the history of women protesting against nuclear weapons (from the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation), gender and disarmament (from WILPF’s Reaching Critical Will), on gender and nuclear weapons from ICAN, the history of women and the anti-nuclear movement in the Pacific Islands from the Asian Pacific Leadership Network, and a brief history of the women-led protests (specifically the Embrace the Base protest) against the UK nuclear program in the mid-80s from the Imperial War Museum, and an essay on the Women Strike for Peace from the Arms Control Association.
